Newsflash: Openings available at UI journalism conference!

OK, I realize I'm two critiques behind, but I am breaking my blog silence with exciting news: The University of Idaho School of Journalism and Mass Media will hold a two-day conference for student journalists on Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 6.

The critical element here is this: There are openings for 40 students, and while it was originally geared solely toward UI and WSU students, they have agreed to accept any interested LCSC students on a first-come, first-served basis. I talked to Kenton Bird, the director of JAMM, and asked if they could wedge in a handful of LCSC students (if any of you are interested, that is) and he said they could but he'd want to know sooner rather than later.

The cost will be $15 per student, which is mostly to pay for the cost of food (dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday). You'd also have to drive to and from Moscow, but I figured if more than one person wants to go, they can carpool or ride up with me on the day that I am putting on a design workshop (which I believe is Saturday, at this point).

I will try to get more definitive information about the conference and post it here or bring it to this week's meeting on Wednesday. I think this is a great opportunity to learn more about the craft of journalism. Those of you who are interested should let me know ASAP so I can give the organizers a head count.

As for the Pathfinder critiques, the check is in the mail ...
