THE GOOD
An inviting cover, done in a slightly different style. Nice job.
Opinion page had the usual mini-columns from Jed and Kelly-Rae in addition to a topical commentary from the University of Texas. Question: Have we tried to recruit a regular campus columnist for that spot? Something to work on.
Sarah delivered a newsy 1-2 punch with her stories on the Tony Fernandez meet-and-greet and the King holiday roundup.
Student Spotlight introduced readers to Warrior volleyball player Liz Clark.
Kaylee had the best lead of the issue in her movie review of "The Green Hornet," Jeremiah broke down the latest album by Cage the Elephant and Alex told us about her mediocre steak dinner at Applebee's.
The new Mad Lib feature was fun. Question: Are we soliciting submissions from Pathfinder readers for future publication? If so, we may want to make that clear somewhere in that piece. Further advice: Edit any submissions you receive very very carefully so as not to get yourselves into any hot water.
Complete coverage in sports, including Jed's impassioned plea for sympathy for the student-athlete.
While the Word on the Street question concerning New Year's resolutions is a bit dated, it was still money.
THE NOT-SO-HOT
Second reference made in several places to "Dr. King." As far as we know, Martin Luther King Jr. never performed surgery on another human being. Again, best to forget the "Dr." courtesy titles unless the people involved are real-life medical practitioners. I know you want to show your respect for these individuals, but in journalism you do that by spelling their names right and quoting them correctly.
Fernandez story mentions his 30 years in higher education but makes no further mention of where he was before he found his way to LCSC.
Not clear from the MLK Day story where Durbin Davis comes from or what his credentials are. Critical information for your readers, that. Same story quotes exchange student Angel Tiburcio as wanting to take what he has learned back to his home country, but we don't still know where that is.
Could have saved space for additional questions in the Student Spotlight feature with an introductory paragraph that introduces the person and saves the Q&A format for more exploratory, expansive topics.
